Out for dessert with some friends - celebrating a very special occasion at a swanky hotel. This dessert cost $30! The company more than made up for the cost!
Just a place to share the photos I have taken, articles I have found interesting, and thoughts on photography.

Day 107 - Microscope
Another picture that I'm not sure why I like, but I do. I took a bunch of random pictures of different artefacts at a library at Johns Hopkins University. I think there is something about the reflecting light on the showcase.

Day 106 - Flags everywhere
Growing up, I used to hear people say that Canada is not a nation of flag wavers, and I really didn't understand what that mean. Going to the States for the first time, it was so fascinating to see the number of American flags I saw everywhere - businesses, residences, and government buildings!
This was at Johns Hopkins University, again, a shot that I didn't take time to set up, and took as I was passing. I wish I could have taken it straight on, to frame the flag better.

Day 105 - Columns everywhere
On a brief trip to Baltimore and Washington DC, one of the things I noticed about the architecture of the cities is that they love columns! I took this photo very quickly and actually love it, though I'm not sure why.

Day 104 - "10-4"
I wish I had taken the picture will all the walkie-talkies still on the docks. It would have made a better picture, but it was a busy morning, so I didn't get there in time. Also from the summer festival with which I volunteer. Can you see the Tim Hortons in the background.... yup, breakfast of champions!

Day 103 - Sleeping
This is from a festival this summer. I thought the inflatables looked like they were sleeping on the lawn awaiting to be stirred from their slumber. I call this one "Sleeping".

Day 102 - A Canadian Institution
It was super early in the morning when this photo was taken. Ok, not really that early, but early for a Sunday, and early for having been out really late the night before. Was a the set-up/dress rehearsal at day two of a festival I volunteer with, and well, thought this sort of summed up the morning... coffee!

Day 101 - Old lamp
Just looked interesting so, I took a picture. Still not sure what I feel about it. I know it's a little unfocused, but I'm not sure that is the issue with the photo.

Day 100 - Mini waterfall
I love the way a long exposure on running waters look, so did this at a small water feature at the CNE, this past summer. I think I'm getting the hang of it, so will try a real waterfall next time.

Day 99 - Capitol Picture
I took a lot of photos of Capitol Hill, and the one I loved the best was this one... just adore the colours in it!

Day 98 - Cool flare photo
Ok, I have to admit, that I had no idea what this picture would look like, since all I could see on the screen was the sun. I actually love this photo!

Day 97 - The house around the corner
Thought this house looked really interesting. Something about it being almost perfectly white and clean, but also completely run down.

Day 96 - Unexpected subject
When I took the photo I posted yesterday, I wanted to take a picture of the purple flowers that were in the background. When I went over to take the pic, this bee came out of nowhere.

Day 95 - Random flowers
I have decided that I really love shooting foliage. For the most part it cooperates, and it is patient! I loved the colours here, so took a quick picture.
Camera is alive... but not really well
I was able to figure out why my camera was acting funny, so, I'm still using it. It's not the all that happy, but I'm happy I can still use it!

Day 94 - Red Roads
I love that the paths at this place was made of red gravel? I don't know actually made the pathways red, but it reminded me of this quote from Anne of Green Gables:
"But those red roads are so funny. When we got into the train at Charlottetown and the red roads began to flash past I asked Mrs. Spencer what made them red and she said she didn't know and for pity's sake not to ask her any more questions."

Day 93 - Green chicken?
This is not the best food shot I've ever taken, but I'm posting it anyway. I don't know, but green chicken? It was ok, not what I was expecting when I ordered it.

Day 91 - Bubbles
This is from a shoot this summer. I had a couple ideas of what I wanted to capture, and they didn't work very well. I had this image in mind of capturing a stream of bubbles as they blown. My friend, who humoured me when I wanted to stop every 3 steps to take another picture on our walk though the park, tried to blow the bubbles I wanted, and well, the solution just didn't cooperate. This is one photo I liked from the afternoon.

Day 90 - Trillium splashed with colour
This is an old photo from the summer of 2007 that I found on my new phone, go figure. I wanted to try the colour splash on the app I downloaded. It took a while to edit the with precision I wanted, and still it's not perfect. The effect is interesting, nonetheless.
If anyone is wondering, the app is "Photo Studio". I'm a little disappointed with it, since the first time I tried to "colour splash" it did something funny when it saved. I just have the free version of it, and I'm trying to convince myself to actually purchase the full app.

Day 89 - Summer sunshine
Didn't have much time today, so literally stepped out the door to grab something and saw the amazing light about half an hour before the sunset. Snapped this picture of the light in the backyard, and then used a "summer filter" on it, to darken the edges a little bit.

Try number 2
So, the other collage was bothering me, so I re-created it, making some minor changes. I think I like this one better.
Day 88 - Waiting for the doctor
What do you do while waiting for the doctor? Take pictures and make a collage of course! Looking at this now, I see that there is something off about the centre picture.

Day 87 - Purple flowers
This summer I saw these purple flowers everywhere this summer, and I really wanted to take a picture of them on the side of highway, but couldn't figure out a way to do that safely. So, when I saw them by the lake shore, I took a quick shot as I was headed back to the car.

Day 86 - Lighthouse
Another shot from my outing along the lake shore. I actually was amazed at how many boats were on the water.

Day 85 - Art with new cell phone
I got a new phone recently, and now I have a decent camera on my phone with which I can take pictures. I just downloaded a photo editing app, and was fooling around with a picture I took on the weekend. I think I'm going to have fun with my phone and this app.

Day 84 - A walk on the lake shore
What could be more fun that being at the lake shore with a friend and some balloons. This is my friend in the image, and I told her to beware of how annoying I can be with a camera. I have many pictures from this outing; I loved the pop of colour of this image.
Note: I did have to seriously fix the horizon on this one... so strange that I thought I had it right, but it was at an 8 degree tilt!

Day 83 - Letting go...
I did this exercise with a friend that is meant to encourage someone to let go of things weighing on them. The person identifies these things and writes them on a piece of paper, ties the paper to a balloon, and let them go into the universe. Really it's more symbolic than anything else. I don't know if it worked for this friend - hoping it did!
So, this is a picture of one of the balloons at it flew up to the heavens...
Added some text to the picture because reminded me of the pictures that I've seen on tumblr, etc.

Day 82 - Through the leaves
I was trying to take a picture of the sunlight through leaves. I tried to find something interesting to put in the background, but no such luck. I did like the way the leaves look.

Day 81 - Ride in motion
This was from the CNE. I wanted to try another long exposure on a carnival ride. I still can't set it for very long exposure, since I'm not that completely stable. I need to invest in a monopod!

Day 79 - Books n' Colour
I don't know why exactly Chapters/Indigo has created this line of books, but they were very pretty to look at. Each colour/book is the work of a different author, and I can't really figure out how they were selected. As I have previously mentioned, I do love colour, and this was a happy display. I couldn't quite capture all the colours of the books in this picture, so I picked my favourite set. The visual distractions in the background are annoying, or is it just me?
