At a conference today, so this is a quick shot I took of the tempting candies sitting in front of me all day. I don't know why, but when I'm at a hotel for a conference I consume these in mass quantities. Today, I was good. I didn't even have one!
Just a place to share the photos I have taken, articles I have found interesting, and thoughts on photography.

Day 258 - A rainbow in the rough
This is another one taken from the inside of a car. If you live in the city, chances are you know where this is. I love this random rainbow painted on the concrete on the side of a major road way. I wonder if people actually notice it, especially when they are stuck in traffic. It always makes me smile.

Day 257 - Abandoned
I played around with this shot quite a bit. This was a random instrument, I can't remember what it was exactly, that looked like it was in desperate need of some TLC. The photo is unfocused, and although I didn't like it at first, now I love that is is soft. This all just lends to the story of the unloved instrument cast aside because it is past it's prime.

Day 256 - Feeling unfocused
Was out for some meetings today, so I thought I would try taking a new photo. This was the best I could do, being as cold as I was! I know the photo is not in focus, but it really does reflect the way I feel right now.

Day 255 - A pony in its element
Still not really inspired, so, pulling some photos shot at earlier during this project. This is from the summer when we went driving on the weekend. I just like the animals on the farm enjoying their time away from human interlopers.

Day 254 - Unusual building
Mostly when I pass this building, I am driving, but not on this day. I have no idea what the building is, but I always thought it was neat. It is hard to take a picture of it, unobstructed.

Day 253 - Through the window
I was looking through my pictures and found quite a few from at home that were taken from the car. I guess I didn't realize it, but I tend to take a lot of photos from the car. My goal for next month is to go some where and just use the time for the sole purpose of taking pictures and nothing else.

Day 252 - Up the Roadway
Feeling a little uninspired today. So, found a picture I took for this project months ago. I love the curve of this road, not when I'm driving, but to take pictures. I have to try to take a better picture of this road from a above. On the To Do list.

Day 251 - "Somewhere out there..."
I remember when I was young watching the movie An American Tail. If you haven't seen it, it's a movie about Fievel's journey to reunite with his family in America. The family was immigrating from Russia to America in hopes of finding freedom, when Fievel becomes separated from his family. There is one scene in the movie where Fievel looks up into the sky and sees the moon and sings "Somewhere out there". At that same moment Tanya, Fievel's sister, is doing the exact same thing. It's such a sweet moment of pure love.
To this day, every time I look up at the moon, I think of that song. It actually means more when I'm away from my family. We saw the moon every night in Morocco, and I photographed it a lot. A friend didn't really understand why I was so enchanted with the moon, and there are many reasons, including knowing that it's a connection to others. It was a stunning sight, and there was something comforting about seeing the moon every night.
I think if we stayed there any longer in Morocco, I would have started belting out the song (instead of singing it in my head)... lucky for everyone, we didn't!

Somewhere out there,
beneath the pale moonlight,
someone's thinking of me and loving me tonight.
Somewhere out there,
someone's saying a prayer,
that we'll find one another in that big somewhere out there.
And even though I know how very far apart we are,
it helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star.
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby,
it helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky.
Somewhere out there,
if love can see us through,
then we'll be together, somewhere out there,
out where dreams come true.

Day 250 - Rose collage
I did something like this in a scrapbook for a friend's wedding present. The one in the scrapbook was a little more complex and was with pieces of the exact same photo. This one, I thought it would be interesting to piece the photos from yesterday's post together.

Day 249 - More roses
I really did love the picture of the pink roses from yesterday, and edited and made this collage on my phone... I am liking some of the new options on PhotoGrid, easily the most used app on my phone!

Day 248 - Pink roses
Did you know that each flower and colour of flower has a meaning? I don't know that people think too much about it, but some of it is ingrained into our culture... for example, a red rose signifies love, a daisy innocence, calla lily beauty, etc.
I generally don't like pink, but a rose is a rose, and these were beautiful, and smelled amazing!

Day 247 - Roses!
Say what you will about Valentine's Day, I LOVE the fact that there are beautiful flowers everywhere! And, not to speak of how amazing the grocery stores smell! I have to admit, I have an issue with the floral industry, so, I would encourage you to buy potted plants!

Day 246 - What is the focus?
I've been taking some online photography classes, and any opportunity I get, I try to implement what I learn. So, at my friend's brother's wedding, I tried a few different shots, including this one. I really liked how it turned out. The focus of this picture is the cake, but framed to show the couple.

Day 245 - Happy Valentine's Day!
I honour of Valentine's Day, here is a picture of a chocolate box. I actually really liked the box, and the lighting in the store where I found this box. I hope you celebrate the people in your life everyday, and not only on this one day!

Day 244 - Interesting carvings
What I loved about walking through the cemetery was seeing how Toronto has changed over time, not only with the names on the epitaphs, headstones, etc, but also in the styles and carvings on them. I like the carvings on this one. I wish I knew more about how it was selected and some of the traditions and cultures represented.

Day 243 - ... and the road goes on
This was also from my walk through the cemetery. It was so big, with many plots, that we ended up getting lost trying to get back to our car. Every so often we would look back to see from whence we came, and the roads looked like they were unending. I loved how this particular road curved.

Day 242 - The sun sets on another day
I don't know why I had to take this picture, I just did. The sun was lower in the horizon, but not quite ready to set. My friend and I were ready to leave the trail, the quiet, and the souls that had been laid to rest.

Day 241 - Winter escape
I've been dying to go skating, and well, really do anything that is outside, but people just don't have a love for this weather as I do! A friend did come to my rescue, and we decided to go on a winter hike, which really turned into a winter walk. We "hiked" through an urban escape in the city. This trail runs through a cemetery. It was a nice walk to reflect on life, but also to appreciate the history of various families in Toronto. Unfortunately, the snow was so deep we didn't venture too close to the graves, and couldn't read many of them very well.
Loved the carvings on this one.

Day 240 - Snow covered fence
Looking at white fences, particularly white picket fences, reminds me of families and summer. This was a sharp contrast to my thoughts. It's interesting the associations we form about certain images and objects.

Day 239 - Snow-scape
It's been snowing quite a bit here, so many of the next set of photos I'm sure will be of the winter-y landscape around me.
This is during the biggest snowfall of the season thus far...Wednesday that just past. I was out shovelling the driveway, and by the time I was done there was a fresh layer of snow accumulating. It was a no-win situation, so I took my camera and decided to take a few pictures.

Day 238 - Whoville Tree?
So, during the ice storms here in Toronto, so many of the trees bent over under the weight of the ice. Now as you walk down the street it looks like a scene from the "How the Grinch Stole Christmas".

Day 237 - Dragons
This is the wall that encloses China Town. Never noticed them before yesterday! I like how intricate this wall was.

Day 236 - China Town
A little late, but I was inspired by Chinese New Year.... This is one of the ornate structures at the entranceway to China Town. I love how each China Town I've ever seen has a very ornate entrance!

Day 235 - Peeking through the crystal curtain
Working on photos from my friend's brother's wedding, and I really liked this one. I took a lot of atypical pov photos that day. I had to try this one a couple times before I was happy with it. First, there were too many of the crystals in the shot, and then the focus was not to my liking, etc. I would have loved this one more if the bride was visible, and looking over her shoulder towards me... that would have been the shot!

Day 234 - Go Canada GO!
The Olympics are coming up in less than a week, so, I decided to pay homage to my country/team. This is the only maple leaf photo I could find right now! I remember photographing it shortly after coming back from Morocco... How I missed the maple leaf!
Good luck to Team Canada!

Day 233 - Everything changes in a moment
This photo and the photo in yesterday's post were taken moments apart, and the saturation of colours are different. I just like how it reminds me of how fleeting moments are, and that we have to enjoy them as they come.
I can't remember why there was chicken wire in the backyard, but made for an interesting element in this photo.

Day 232 - As the sun sets
So, I wanted to post this photo from December, because it was striking to me how much the sun in this shot, which is at sunset, to the colours in yesterday's post. I really am drawn to these colours and these silhouettes.
