Day 46 - Future photo idea

This photo is from my venture down to the park across the lake from downtown core.  I was looking at this photo and wondered what this shot would look like in the dark.  I really need to find some time to head to this area of the city at night to figure it out.

Day 45 - Water and Dates

So, although I said I don't have time to edit, this is a photo I took and edited, with the intent of entering a photo competition.  I never ended up submitting it, since there were a few things I didn't like about the photo.   My set up was outside in the backyard an hour before the sunset.  It was fun trying to capture my vision, fine tuning and tweaking as I went along. Overall, this captured the concept, but not the exact image I wanted.

Looking at this image again, I think I would like it if I cropped it a little. Will have to try.

Day 44 - After the rain...

I was driving home in the rain earlier this month, and as I got home the rain just stopped.  I noticed the beautiful light, being close to sunset, and how everything was glistening in the backyard, so I tried to find some thing to photograph to capture it all.  This was the most interesting thing I could find - the hedges that I love to hate.  They attract mosquitoes and are a pain to prune, but on this occasion was the subject of my photo.... that and the water drops just clinging to the berries.

Day 43 - A Secret Garden

This was a photo I both took and edited a couple of weeks ago... or, maybe a week ago.  I went to visit a friend about two hours from where I lived for work.  He told me that his daughter had read the book The Secret Garden, and wanted a secret garden of her very own.  So, while the family (minus my friend) was away for the summer, he was trying to make her vision come to life.  I really liked the little stone sculpture/statue of the little girl that functions as a bird bath.  I can only imagine the hours of fun my friend's daughter will have watching the birds coming and going in her own private secrete garden!

Day 42 - Anti-glare

I was out at the mosque the other day, and was looking through my purse for something.  What I found (not the item I was seeking) was a bunch of random things.  Any normal person may just discard them, but that's not me.

So, when I was taking the pictures of some of the items, I noticed this terrible glare on the bookmark that I thought really detracted from the image.  I tried to shift around, both myself and the position of the items to see if I could get rid of the glare.  It didn't work.  After a few tries, I decided to use my hand to shield out the direct light, the results were much better.  Of course everyone around me thought I was crazy seeing the way I had everything perched, and with one hand on my camera and the other in mid air... must have been a pretty amusing sight.

Liked this photo so much better than the one above!

Day 41 - Colour!

I'm super busy for the next little while, so though I have a bunch of pictures from the DSLR I borrowed that I can post, I don't have the time to edit right now.  I'm relegated to what is from my point-and-shoot which I won't be editing.

This picture is of a close-up of an outfit I was wearing.  I just loved the colours and textures so I took a picture.  I love bold colours in photographs, though, I don't think that has come across in the pictures I've posted to-date.

Day 40 - Ceremony

I figure this is a safe image to post.  This is the ceremony... I think I really would have liked the image if it was straight on, and not take from the side.  Straight on, I would have had all the horizontal lines, but not the vertical ones, which is what I don't like.  I would have stood in the aisle to take pictures, but I felt a little self conscious moving around, since I didn't actually know the couple, or anyone at the wedding, except the person who invited me.

I really do love the black and white.  I have a few pictures in colour at the church, but really don't like the way the colours looked in them.

Day 39 - Thirsty?

So, I was taking a picture of the head table, and, the bride turned away, and apparently I was focussed on the glasses on the table... I guess, I was thirsty!.

Yes, you can see that I blurred it out, since I didn't get permission to post their images online, but you get the idea... the glasses were in focus, and the people were fuzzy, albeit not this much.  I don't know where those other weird lines came from... they are not on the original.

Day 38 - Table 15 in the dark

At the reception, I had to fiddle with the camera a little to familiarize myself with the settings on the camera.  I realized that I really like photos in black and white, so a lot of the pictures I took at the wedding were in black and white.  I also loved having complete control over the shutter speed and the aperture size... I'm not used to it, so I think it might take me some time to learn the right settings to use in each situation.

Didn't bother editing this photo.. it's as I shot it.  I know it's a little dark.

Day 37 - DSLR Fun!

So, I borrowed a friend's DSLR for a week.  I'm working on a project, for which I really just wanted the DSLR.  I have to tell you, I just love it.  I have to admit, I have forgotten how heavy a DSLR can be, but it's worth it.

Just a picture of a friend's purse, as we got ready for a wedding.

Day 36 - My muse the mosquitoes

This is what happens when you try to take a long exposure shot, while lying in mosquito infested grass at 1am in the morning. Staying still is not an option, especially when you forget to douse yourself with bug repellent. Though this isn't the shot I was looking for, I do think it looks interesting.  The two light streaks that start in the centre of the image is a plane heading to the airport.

Day 35 - My head is in the clouds

I'm still so fascinated with the different tones in the clouds.  Every time I look a the clouds, I actually think of how a painter might try to capture the light and the tones.

Day 34 - Sun and Flag

Yup... still obsessed with the sky. This was a hard picture to take, as I was essentially was starring into the sun.  I tried to use the obstruction this time in the photo.

Day 33 - Colours of night fall

All I wanted to do was capture the colours of the sky.... I know there are power lines in the shot, but when you turned, just slightly, the colours where different, ie not as pretty.

Day 32 - White clouds

Ask anyone I know, I love a very particular type of cloud (cumulus) in a perfect blue sky...  This is what I found a couple of days ago.  This picture is really grainy, which I'm not happy about.

Day 31 - Flying in the cloudy skies

I'm obsessed with the sky these days.  This is a pic I quickly captured before the plane went above the cloud deck.  Looks hazy, and a little grainy... but, what can you do with the limitations of an older camera?

Day 30 - Skyline on Indy Weekend

I was out and about early this morning, and had a chance to explore a part of the city that I never had before.  I was on the lake on about 12km away from the downtown core.  I could hear the Indy cars from where I was, and wondered if the purple haze was from the cars or just the smog on this hot day.

Day 29 - Daily Project

Was sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's office, and was bored... I always try to keep my camera with me, so that is what I used to occupy my time.  This is photo took that I thought was fitting for this project.

Day 28 - Table Vignette

Not much to say about this one, except it's one of the few that are in focus.  Okay, I can also say that really I like the light.  There is a candle right behind the glass candy dish, as well as the visible one.

Day 27 - Candles burning at night

So, this is a picture of our table clock with some of the candles in the background.  If this was a planned shot, with a specific purpose for it, I would have changed the candles to two that burn relatively similarly.  Just look at the differences in the flames... who knew they would burn so differently?  I also would have a light on the clock, so I didn't get that horrible shadow on the edge of the face of the clock.

Day 26 - Silhouette by candle light

This picture is out of focus, but it is another attempt at a silhouette. Wish it was more in focus.  Will try again!

Day 25 - Blackout Fun!

What do you do when it pouring outside, it's getting dark, and the electricity goes out?  Take pictures of the light cast by the candles, of course!  I'll be posting a few photos from what I was fooling around with tonight.  This  is the first one from the night.  I purposefully took this photo out of focus.  I liked all the colours, from the window, the curtains and the candles, and that is what I wanted to capture.

Day 24 - Flowers in the garden

Close to the wire bust from yesterday, there were flowers and lights of the ground.  I'm guessing also part of the same display.  Anyway, I actually liked this picture better than the last.  I still gotta work on the composition.

Day 23 - Random wire bust form

At the shopping centre, I found these wire bust forms with flowers on them in the centre court.  I wasn't sure why they were there...maybe it was supposed to be art or maybe something for something fashion-related.  I really didn't have a chance to really think about taking an interesting shot, since it was close to closing time.  I hope they are still there the next time I wander through so I can try to take more pictures.

Day 22 - Carousel

I went to photograph a circus tent that was temporarily erected at a local shopping centre.  My luck, the day I remember, it was gone.  So, I wandered around inside in hopes of capturing some action at the Fantasy Fair.  My luck it was already closed for the evening.

Personally, I'm not a fan of carnival rides, except the carousel.  I had to take a picture of the horses on the carousel... I had the perfect image in mind, but couldn't take it.  I'll try again, though I did edit the to give the picture to give it the look I wanted.

Day 21 - Silhouette

I wanted to work on trying to capture a proper silhouette for some time, this was the first chance I got to try.  I have to admit, I cheated, I had to darken it in post.  Will try again!

Day 20 - Starring the horse....

So, I was trying to take a picture of the red buildings in the background of this image, and the horse decided it wanted to be the subject of the photo.

The picture looked washed out, so I edited, and I'm not sure like better. The top is desaturated, and the bottom is more naturally coloured.  On both I boosted the red to make the structures and the horse standout.

Day 19 - Plasma globe or a mature dandelion....

I can't decide if I think this image reminds me more of a plasma globe, a mature dandelion, or an iris...  I love fireworks... they make interesting photos.

Day 18 - Happy Canada Day!

This is what happens when you arrive late for fireworks and get stuck behind a tree! The show was still worth watching, but it was extremely hard to take pictures.  I couldn't steady myself, sitting on the car and worried that someone would want to leave (we were double parked).

Day 17 - Lens Flare

Wanted to see if I could purposefully cause a lens flare with the sun shinning bright.  I know generally people don't like the flare, or add it in post, but I wanted to see if I could make it work in this image without editing.
